Abstract: This study assessed the knowledge and utilization of electronic medical records (EMR) at LAD Medical Center, Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria. Utilization of EMR has been yielding positive impact in various healthcare facilities, and it is believed that the knowledge which healthcare professionals possessed on EMR system has been contributing to this assertion which necessitated this study. Rogers diffusion of innovation theory and Kotler’s change management model guided this study. Structured and adapted questionnaire was used as instrument of data collection. The population comprised of 200 healthcare professionals from the selected 5 clinical departments. A sample size of 130 was determined using online sample size calculation software, but only 120 copies of questionnaire were found to be suitable for use. Stratified random sampling technique was used to select the participants. Descriptive statistics was utilized in the analysis of the data with Statistical Package Service Solution (SPSS) version 22.0 The study’s findings show that majority of the respondents 76 (63.0%) had formal training on EMR. The study also found that majority of the respondents 72 (60.0%) had previous experience on EMR. It further found that majority of the respondents 112 (93.3%) strongly agreed that EMR usage provided quick access to the needed health information, while 115 (95.8%) of the respondents also strongly agreed that EMR saves time in documenting health data. The study concluded that healthcare professionals at LAD Medical Center, Ibadan possessed adequate knowledge of EMR which helped them in its significant utilization for desired outcome. The study therefore recommended regular training of staff on EMR system, good security measures of EMR tools and provision of alternative sources of power supply for continuous and smooth EMR operations in the hospital.
